January 21, 2017LAUNCH OF SILAT ACADEMY FOR JAMIYAH CHILDREN’S HOME
Children of Jamiyah Children’s Home now have a new interest to look forward to this year. Jamiyah Singapore launched a Silat Academy on Saturday, 21 January 2017, for the Home’s Centre of Excellence.
The Centre of Excellence was launched last year on 26 March, starting with academies of Soccer, Batik, Performing Arts, and Music.
Mr Mohd Yunos Mohd Shariff, Vice President II of Jamiyah and Chairman of Jamiyah Children’s Home, shared, “After a review on the children’s progress since the launch of the Centre of Excellence, I am pleased to see some improvement in the children’s character and I am glad that we are opening a new academy, the Silat Academy, as this form of sport requires plenty of discipline and hard work, and hopefully it would teach them how to achieve success in life.”
The children of the Home listened to a motivational sharing session by Pencak Silat Champions, Mr Sheik Farhan Sheik Alau’ddin and Mr Muhammad Shakir Juanda, who won Gold in the Pencak Silat World Championships in 2016 in the Class J 90-95kg category and Class I 85-90kg category respectively.
Guests and children of the Home were awed by the Silat demonstration performance by the duo.
