August 22, 2017Meat for the Festive Season
In conjunction with the upcoming festive celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Jamiyah Singapore has organised ‘Meat for the Needy’ where some 1,000 beneficiaries of Jamiyah from several constituencies such as Marsiling and Whampoa receive up to 3kg of packed meat each throughout the three-day distribution drive.
This is a first time initiative of Jamiyah during Hari Raya Aidilfitri other than its annual distribution of meat during Hari Raya Aidiladha, meant for the less privileged.
The first day of distribution on 20th June was at Whampoa Community Centre, followed by Jamiyah Headquarters and Marsiling Community Centre the next day. Jamiyah had the honour of having Ms Denise Phua, Mayor, Central Singapore CDC, at the distribution for beneficiaries at Jamiyah Headquarters, and Mdm Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament at Marsiling CC, as Guest-of-Honour.
Dr H.M Saleem, Vice-President 1 of Jamiyah Singapore, and Chairman of Jamiyah FoodBank, shared, “Since the inception of Jamiyah FoodBank, we have expanded our distribution of food items to needy families of all races and faiths island wide. We hope to continue this ‘Meat for the Needy’ project as an annual activity.”
This Saturday, beneficiaries from Chua Chu Kang will be receiving the meat for the festive season.
